Artfully Sent...Beyond the Card

I was supposed to go to a scrapbook weekend with my sisters and nieces this weekend, and something came up that I was not able to go.  I have been thinking of them all weekend and the fun they must be having.  I really missed being there with them!  Scrapbooking with family is precious time.  I always try to make a gift for them when we have this weekend, and I still did that anyway.  I had some Spellbound paper (discontinued) that I was itching to work with, so I made them Halloween layouts.

I love this paper, I love Artfully Sent, and I love the Halloween Greetings stamp set.  I am sure it's the little witch that I love so much in that stamp set!  I grabbed a free sketch from Scrapbook Generation, and put this layout together.

Artfully Sent was designed to make your card-making life faster and simpler, but I don't want you to stop there with it.  When you are creating scrapbook pages before sure to give your cartridge a look!  I used the following images from Artfully Sent, and I cut them at real dial size to fit my pages.
page 44 - Haunted House with fence (icon)
page 44 - Eat, Drink, and Be Scary card (pocket card)
page 43 - Spider (icon + shift)

Once I had the house cut, I layered the back of it with white daisy.  I cut the spider with black glitter paper, and I layered the pocket card with black glitter paper as well.

Thanks for stopping in on this beautiful Sunday, and I hope that you have a magnificent day!!

Live in the Moment

I love working with fall colors, and Pathfinding paper is just perfect!  I cut some leaves using the Art Philosophy cartridge, and I sanded down the edges to give them that rough appearance.  My favorite fall stamp set is Lifetime of Happiness because I love all the flowers that can be combined.

We really do need to live in the moment, you know.  It's just not good to think back on things, and we can't control what is to come.  I firmly believe that today...this moment...is where we have to stay.

Off to make some scrapbook pages that I will share with you tomorrow!

Creative Blogger Nomination

I feel most honored to have been nominated as a Creative Blogger by my friend and fellow consultant, Vicki Wizniuk,  Those of you that follow Vicki know that she is super talented!  Be sure to visit her, share some love, and follow her journey with paper.  You will be most glad that you did!

Creative Blogger is a chain of  blog hop tours.  You will get to meet new bloggers, gather loads of inspiration, and connect with blogs that will expand your creativity.

I have four questions to answer and then I will pass along the nominations:

What am I currently working on?

The question would be...what am I NOT working on!!  But since you asked, here are some projects I am working on:  gifties for a scrapbook retreat this weekend, quarterly team awards and gifties for my team meeting, Christmas tags for my team challenge, Christmas classes, items for a craft fair, and Artfully Sent cards.

I always have a lot of projects in the works, and I LOVE that!  It allows me to channel my many ideas into different artwork pieces!

How does my work differ from others in its genre?

I don't know if I have a genre!  I definitely have a style - clean lines but loads of cluster.  I would say I am most known for those clusters!  I like when pages, cards, or 3-D items are balanced, too, so I really try to teach that at my classes and Gatherings.

I also journal with the my own handwriting 99% of the time.  I truly believe that our children and their children (and so on) need to see our handwriting.

Why do I create what I do?

What a most difficult question!  Creating and teaching those creations is my job, BUT that is not why I create.  I create because I believe it's important to express ourselves in an artistic way.  Whether that's singing or writing or graffiti or playing with paper and ink, like I do, it is important.

When it comes to scrapbooking, we are sharing our story.  That means the good, the bad, and the ugly.  Whoever reads our books in the future needs to know that life is not perfect, but it is well worth living because of everything we experience.

Cards should be an extension of the gift or something happy that a person receives in the mail.  So I like to really think about the person and what they love when I am making a card for them.

Then there's times when I am completely random in my creating just because.  I may have found a new template or technique that I want to try.  Or maybe I am crabby or there is something difficult going on in life.  Creating is therapy for my soul!

How does my creative process work?

I need to be inspired by colors and patterns.  I don't think creativity is something that can be forced, and when I feel like I am forcing it, I have to walk away from my craft desk.  I do a lot of creating in my head before it even start a project.  Ask me now what I am doing on those sleepless nights!  If I think of an idea and it keeps me from sleeping or wakes me up, I will get up to create.  My very patient husband has gotten used to my late nights and need to sleep in once in awhile.  When I just can't bring things together, I go window shopping.  I am very, very inspired by clothing displays!

Now, the fun part!  I get to nominate some inspiring bloggers!

I nominate Morgan Vogt and Karen Day.

Just by reading their blogs, I learn so much about paper crafting, and I gather tons of inspiration.  Both of them have a keen eye for balance and color use.  I know that if you stop by and visit them you will feel the very same way!

Seaside Notebook

I always think that an altered notebook is a nice gift to give people.  I love Seaside, and it turned out to be the perfect paper!

These are, oh, so easy to make!  I always pick up composition books when they are on clearance knowing that I'll want to make someone a notebook!    For this one, I placed a large banner on the front and then cut a large accordion flower using the Artiste cartridge.  I grabbed some embellishments from my stash, and they were done!

Two tips when covering a composition book:
  • I like using Bonding Memories to adhere the paper to covers.  It is a strong hold and you don't have to worry about the paper coming off.
  • Save old ribbon pieces!  They make fabulous bookmarks for your notebook!
Thanks for stopping in today, and make it a great day!!

Aloha!

My leader, the beautiful and crazy talented Karen, recently qualified for the Hawaii Land Tour.

I was so happy to hear this news!  So I pulled out my Island Greetings stamp set, Seaside paper, and got to creating!

I stamped the image in cocoa pigment ink because I wanted to color with touch twin markers.  I used three marker colors - pastel green for the stems, light orange for the flower, and marigold for the center of the flower.  After I colored them, I used the colorless blending pen to erase some of the color. I was almost finished and decided I needed to pop up the larger flower, so I simply stamped and colored another image.  But it still needed some more pop, so I added liquid glass.  That was the finishing touch!

Thanks for popping in today!

Eat Drink and Be Scary

This is a pocket card from Artfully Sent!

This cut is so stinkin' cute!!  Now I cut this the same size as I cut the sleeve that I showed you yesterday.  It will slide in there very nicely.    But you can also cut them the same size as your Picture My Life cards and insert them in page protectors of use them on a traditional page.  What an awesome function on this cartridge!  I cut the card in white and then covered the back with black cardstock.  To add a little zippidee-do-da, I embellished the card with black shimmer trim, a couple of Scaredy Cat stickers, and epoxy stars from the Scaredy Cat Assortment.

Spooky

I'm back today with Artfully Sent and a sleeve card.

I love this sleeve card!!  It is so fun to have great cuts, papers, and embellishments to work with!  There is not much to this at all.  First you cut the sleeve card from Artfully Sent.   I tucked in a piece of Sunset Paper Fundamentals as a background.  That spider is awesome, and I cut him from Artfully Sent with silver glitter paper.  The last thing I did was pull out my Scaredy Cat Assortment and add the metal charm and epoxy stars.  How quick and easy!!

Come back tomorrow to see what else I cut with the Halloween key!

Happy Birthday

Don't you think glitter is one of the best ways to say happy birthday to a BFF?

I used pink glitter paper to cut the sentiment for Artfully Sent scene card.  It adds just the right amount of pop!  I used three keys on the cartridge for this card because it's just so easy to combine the images on this cartridge!  With the pixie pink paper in the background, I just had to add that silhouette.  The stamped sentiment is from one of the stamp sets that come with Artfully Sent, and I stamped it in Slate to match the twine bow on dress.

I hope you've been enjoying examples from the Artfully Sent cartridge!

I am heading off to Utah for the next few days to attend a Close To My Heart event, and I can't wait!  There's nothing like spending time with Close To My Heart friends!!  I am sure I will be sharing photos next week!!

Thanks for stopping by today, and I hope that you find yourself most blessed!

Thinking of You

I have an Artfully Sent card for you today.  There are so many keys, so many combinations, and I had a hard time choosing what I wanted to do!  But I knew I wanted a card for a friend so I chose flowers with fall colors.

I cut the base of the swing card in both colonial white and olive.  I let colonial white be the main base, but then I cut a portion of the olive base to layer the front of the card.  Before adhering, I dry embossed it with my honeycomb folder.    I wanted some extra flowers other than the focal one, so I cut the sleeve card on the same key and used the flowers that were left over.  What a pretty little card this turned out to be, and one that I hope leaves a smile on my friend's face!

Thanks for stopping in today!  I so appreciate your visits!!

September Stamp of the Month, Liquid Glass, and the All-Purpose Craft Mat

I had a Gathering on Saturday, and I like to make pretty things for my hostesses.  When you a hostess at one of my Gatherings, you never quite know what you are going to get!  I happen to know that this hostess is hosting a large Thanksgiving dinner, so I wanted to make her a frame for a photo.

I used the last of my discontinued Balloon Ride paper for this pennant frame.  I made 2-3/4" roses from the Artiste cartridge.  And now's where I want to talk about Liquid Glass and the All-Purpose Craft Mat.

We all know that we can apply this clear liquid glass to stamped images, stickers, or any other item for an extra bit of 3-D sparkle and shine. The fine-tip applicator lets you apply it precisely where you want for a glossy, glaze-like look.  I also use it for adhesive because it has a strong hold!  Now that we have the all purpose craft mat, that makes my life a lot simpler!

The all purpose craft mat is a 15" × 20" non-stick mat perfect for all projects. It wipes clean easily, is heat resistant up to 240° Fahrenheit, and has a non-slip underside for work surface grip.  I keep mine on my desk and I no longer get adhesive on my work surface!  Anyway, when I want to use liquid glass as an adhesive, I squirt some on the craft mat.  I use a paint brush (I am always looking for cheap, disposable brushes) to spread the liquid glass on my surface and then attach paper. The excess liquid glass clean right off the mat with a paper towel.  But I really want you to notice something else I do with liquid glass and a paint brush.

Do you see that the hearts from the stamp of the month are shiny?  That is because I painted them with a thin layer of liquid glass. When you are using a stamped image on the outside of something that is sitting out, you really want to secure it so that it doesn't crumple or rip.  Liquid Glass does the trick!

Thanks for stopping in today (and maybe learning a new trick or two)!  I hope that your Monday is most blessed!!

Candy Corn Kisses

When we got news yesterday morning that the Artfully Sent Cricut Collection was available, I got on my website and ordered one to be delivered overnight.  So by noon today, I had that brand spanking new cartridge in my hot little hands!

I have a Gathering Saturday morning at 10:00 am, so I wanted to be sure to have a sample of each of the functions to show.  I made 6 samples in less than two hours!  You are going to love this cartridge!

I want to show you my favorite of the bunch.  This is considered a sentiment card.

The Cricut did all the fancy cutting making this 5 x 7 card.    I add some honey and white daisy paper behind the cut-out and then lined the card with honey paper.  The spider is from one of the Halloween keys, and then I simply added ribbon and epoxy stars.  How easy and fun!

Back to playing...there are 700 keys and 400 projects on the Artfully Sent cartridge!  Not to mention the 3 fabulous stamp sets filled with sentiments, frames, and alphas.  Oh, am I going to have fun!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Atlantic Hearts Guest Designer

I felt so honored to be asked to be a guest designer at Atlantic Hearts!  Michelle designs some awesome sketches, and it's fun to play along over there!  Here is the card I created for this week's sketch.

I love the September Stamp of the Month, and Michelle's sketch was perfect.  I used Yuletide Carol, and don't you think this traditional Christmas paper was perfect for this wedding/anniversary card?  I embossed the tree from the stamp set with versamark and white embossing powder.  I wanted to follow through by embossing the heart and sentiment.  I used ruby pigment ink to stamp them and embossed them with clear embossing powder.

Here is Michelle's sketch:

I hope you will stop by Atlantic Hearts and play along!

Relax and Stay Awhile

I am a memory keeper.

There is nothing I love more than lingering over a layout for a few hours because for me it's not just about putting a photo on paper.  It's about recalling the memories, thinking about the day or the event, and putting that love into the paper and embellishments.  So it often takes me two or three hours to put just a few pictures on pages.  I am okay with that...

As I said, I am a memory keeper.

These photos are from a catamaran excursion in Costa Rica.  This was a bucket list day for my husband.  He has always wanted to take a leisurely day on a catamaran on an ocean.  Every time I think on this day, I am overwhelmed that I earned this trip for the two of us just because I am a memory keeper and share that with others.  Close To My Heart is such a generous company.

So we were on this catamaran for a sunset cruise, and the day couldn't be more perfect.  The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and we had great Close To My Heart friends all around.  We anchored and were able to get off.  Are you kidding?  Jerry was all over that!  He went for the snorkeling equipment and swam away to look under the sea.  I jumped in, took a mouth full of salt water, and floated around with my sweet friend Kim.  As we were sailing back, we were blessed with the most beautiful of sunsets.

It was a day that dreams are made of.

While scrapping the most perfect of days, why would I want to rush through the process?  As you have probably guessed by now, I am not a "scrap-40-pages-in-one-night" person.  We have so many lovely things that match, and it's great fun for me to take out bits and pieces to put it all together,

Oh!  I should tell you that this is Seaside Paper, Seaside Complements, Seaside Assortment, and Seaside Picture My Life cards.  I added a little neutral twine and some Artisan Studs.  The wooden embellishments are discontinued, but you can find everything else on my website.

Thank you so much for stopping in!  It is always a pleasure when you visit!

Family is Forever...September Stamp of the Month

The minute I saw the September Stamp of the Month, I knew what I wanted to do with it.  I love our shadow box frame because it gives me the opportunity to cluster and add thick embellishments.  Let me show you up close so that you can really see.

Yuletide paper is just gorgeous, and it gives a fabulous old-fashioned Christmas feel to a project.  The hearts are from the stamp of the month, and I've stamped them in ruby, new england ivy, and cashmere.  I placed those first using 3-d foam tape down the center.  That allowed me to fold the hearts up.  The "sweet moments" and "family is forever" sentiments are also from the stamp of the month.  With the hearts down, I was then able to cluster around them using Yuletide stickers and the Yuletide assortment.  What do you think of that big rose?  Close To My Heart is so good about making embellishments just for me!  (Well, it wasn't really made just for me, but it sure is nice to have!)  I gathered the cranberry twill ribbon to layer at the bottom.  I felt like the project needed a little balance, and that's why I added the bow on the left.

As always, the stamp of the month is just $5 with a $50 purchase!

Thank you for stopping in today, and may your day be most blessed!

New Book, New Look!

Sometimes it just that time to make a change.  I've had this blog you are visiting for 12 years!  Wow, that's a lot of post and a lo...
